In Year Admissions in Portishead
Most of the schools in Portishead are now academies they have become their own admissions authority. Each school is now responsible for processing In Year transfer applications for their own school and informing the applicant of the outcome and their rights. As such any In Year transfer application for any of the Portishead schools has to be lodged directly with the school and not with North Somerset Council.
It is a requirement that all own admissions authority schools notify the council for all applicants that they have either offered a place to or refused a place to. If an applicant is refused then North Somerset Council will track the application to ensure that a school place is identified and offered.

Information about 30 hours of Free Childcare All children aged 3 or 4 years old are eligible for 15 hours a week of free early education. From September 2017 the government is extending free childcare from 15 hours to 30 hours a week for working parents earning the equivalent of the National Minimum wage or National Living wage for 16 hours a week.
Eligibility To check your eligibility go to: Childcare - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) https://www.childcarechoices.gov.uk/
Applying for 30 hours free childcare You'll be able to apply for 30 hours free childcare and Tax-Free Childcare in a single online childcare service application. You will need to apply for the extended 15 hours offer via www.gov.uk where you will receive a code which you will need to take to your chosen childcare provider.
If you are eligible for 30 hours free childcare and once you have applied for your unique 11 digit reference number, you should take that code to your provider along with your National Insurance number and your child’s birth certificate to secure your free childcare place. Your childcare provider will check the code with the local authority and confirm your eligibility.
Reconfirming your eligibility Every three months, you'll need to reconfirm that you're still eligible for 30 hours free childcare. You'll be reminded to reconfirm you're still eligible 4 weeks before the deadline. If you also receive Tax-Free Childcare, you'll be able to reconfirm your eligibility for both schemes at the same time.
You don't need to take your code to your provider or local authority every time you reconfirm however, you should notify your provider if you fall out of eligibility.
You can apply for 30 hours free childcare for another child at any time. The point at which you'll need to reconfirm will be aligned for all children. This means that you won't need to go online to reconfirm at different points in the month for each child.
If you don't reconfirm, your childcare provider and local authority will be told that you no longer meet the requirements for a free childcare place.
If you become ineligible you may still be able to access your free childcare place for a short period, known as a 'start up period'. You can check what your start up period arrangements are with your childcare provider or local authority. If you're no longer eligible, you can still access the 15 hour universal early education entitlement for 3 and 4-year-olds.
There is also information available on the North Somerset Council website http://nsod.n-somerset.gov.uk/kb5/northsomerset/directory/advice.page?id=hnE-_DGh-14#
Please Note: At the time of writing the HMRC cannot check your availability for the extended entitlement yet. All you can do at the moment is based on the criteria listed above, you can give the provider an indication of whether you are likely to be eligible when applying for a place. Parents can sign up to receive an alert on when to apply for the new childcare schemes.

Childcare Voucher Schemes
Are you prepared for the changes to Childcare Vouchers? In April 2017, the Government launched Tax-Free Childcare, a new initiative for working parents which replaces the current Childcare Voucher Scheme to new joiners in April 2018.
With the introduction of the new scheme you do not have the option to take part in both, while if you leave your current childcare voucher scheme and transition onto the new Tax Free Childcare Scheme you also do not have the option to move back again.
The Government Tax Free Childcare offers parents a 20p top up for every 80p paid into childcare up to a maximum of £500 per quarter, based on £2,500 worth of registered child care costs. Within this scheme there is a requirement to re-confirm eligibility per quarter, failure to do so could result in stopping of payments.
If you signed up for a Childcare Vouchers scheme before April 2018 you can remain on that scheme, and will be able to choose which is more cost-effective for you and your family.
If you are not currently taking Childcare Vouchers, you will only be able to sign up to the Government Tax Free Childcare scheme. Here is a useful link.
